March Group Shoot!

One of the fantastic things about social media is the ability to connect with other professionals in your area and across the globe.
This past weekend I attended a photo shoot with the Lansing area's photographers. My good friend and a fellow photographer Karie Boyd found the location, which was More Than Fine Photography's large and spacious studio in Charlotte. It's not far away and has tons of gorgeous natural light. I'll likely rent it for use with some sessions in the future. If you're looking for somewhere to shoot in- you should look into it too! The wood floors, huge windows, warm brick walls... I'm just in love with the place. That and there are obviously a bunch of artists in the building as evidence from the paintings and sculptures on the way up to it. I love seeing art everywhere. It's one of those addicting things to me... the more creative an atmosphere the more I love it!

So! I helped plan for the shoot and find models for it. Finding models is fun and sometimes difficult. For this shoot our theme was Pinup, 20's-50's Era, and Boudoir. I shot out a few messages to people I've met with before for shoots and both Alyssa and Brittany were interested. If I don't have specific people in mind, I usually post casting calls online using my Facebook business page, Modelmayhem, or various Michigan networking groups on Facebook for photographers, models, stylists, designers, etc. (search any of those keywords for your state and at least one group will pop up). Model Mayhem takes some weeding through to find people who are motivate, know what they are doing, and will actually show up. The same goes for facebook groups, although people are easier to actually contact on there.
Alyssa Ferri is a jazz musician and pinup model. She's so fun to work with! She drove a crazy distance to get there and had perfect outfits. She's awesome for anything era and always prepared.
This shoot was a great opportunity to meet other photographers in the area! We had a lot of fun photographing each other, the models, behind the scenes, and everything going on. It went super smoothly, and everyone involved had a great time. I'm planning fun shoots with a few other photographers as a result. I love doing themed and out of the box photo shoots, and the more people involved, the crazier the idea generally gets. It's great!
Brittany is a bombshell redhead, master of posing, and always amazing to photograph. If you're looking for a model, she's awesome.
